Just 2 hours a week in nature!

Contact with the natural environment

Scientific studies show that spending at least 120 minutes a week in natural environments is associated with a significant reduction in levels of cortisol, the stress hormone, and improvements in immune function and psychological well-being.

Research, such as that published in the journal Scientific Reports , indicates that people who spend at least this amount of time each week in contact with nature have a lower risk of developing cardiovascular disease, in addition to notable improvements in mental health and a general sense of vitality.

This period of 2 hours per week in nature is considered sufficient to stimulate positive physiological and psychological responses, such as reducing blood pressure and heart rate, and to promote states of deep relaxation and cognitive restoration.

However, finding this time can be a challenge, especially with busy daily routines.

Here are three practical tips to help you integrate these 2 hours a week into your schedule:

  1. Schedule time in nature as part of your routine : Mark specific times on your calendar to spend time in nature, just as you would any other important appointment. This could be a morning walk before work or a leisurely stroll at the end of the day.

  2. Take advantage of breaks at work : If you work in an urban environment, use nearby parks or gardens to take breaks throughout the day. Even 15 to 20 minutes outdoors can help you reach your weekly total of 120 minutes.

  3. Combine nature with social activities : Invite friends or family to join you for outdoor activities, such as hiking on nature trails, picnics or even exercise sessions in a park. This way, you will be taking care of your physical and mental health while sharing quality time with those close to you.
